Introduction to Crystals

What is a crystal?

Most people use the word 'crystal' to mean a stone with a crystalline shape that is like a small piece of glass faceted and sparkling.

There are two main types of crystals, clear such as Clear Quartz and ruby and opaque such as Jade and Lapis Lazuli.

Some crystals such as Opal and Tiger's eye do not fit in either groups, this type of stone is called opalescent.

Crystals are found all over the world above and below the surface of the earth.

Sometimes smaller ones are washed out of caves by mountain streams, but most are found

where they have been growing for millions of years, deep in the bowels of the earth.

In these natural caverns, the minerals condense, gradually forming crystals.

On a much smaller scale, crystals can be found inside hollow rocks or in stones called geodes.

The word crystal means clear ice in Greek, the ancients also called it 'Holy ice' believing that crystals were frozen Holy water spilled out from heaven.

Another belief was that a crystal was made from water frozen at such a low temperature that it could never thaw out.

Crystals transmit and receive energies, they transform, attract or repel. The most powerful may appear dull until the beneficial effects are felt.

They bring serenity to a home, peace to an individual, protect or heal us, attract abundance and create love. Being objects of beauty, they enhance the environment wherever they are placed.

Crystals turn on a light in our lives that make everything clear, they do not make things happen, they bring clarity and stimulate our inner resources.

Crystals placed in any room will create an atmosphere of harmony.

They are beneficial in a room where a person is unwell or dying, they dissipate the aura of sickness and shadow.

Most animals are extremely responsive to crystals, if you give cats or dogs, water in which a crystal has soaked it recharges their energy.

Some people like to talk about crystal magic, although for most people crystals have nothing to do with magic at all.

They have, however been used since prehistoric times, so to primitive man crystals were magic, but so was the rising and setting of the sun!
